We Are Never Alone
Dear Kindred Spirits in Christ,
Tonight I reflect upon those who live alone. The single, the widowed and divorced - those separated by circumstances - women and men who have chosen this lifestyle, and others who have had no choice. I recall a time in my own life when living alone was the only option. It had its advantages, but there were uneasy moments, when a storm was raging outside my windows or I felt loneliness creeping in with the dusk. We have to take the bad with the good, right?
A dear friend of mine passed away 3 days ago in another state, and although it hasn't been confirmed, I suspect that she was alone in her bed at a nursing facility. She had been completely paralyzed for 18 years due to a rare form of MS. We would message often and she frequently contacted me in the wee hours when she needed support.
She was a strong Christian and used a voice activated computer system to travel the world and to post some of the most incredible statements of faith, as well as oddities that she found while cruising the internet. Debra called many of us who assisted her "rescue rangers", and it was endearing.
In remembering my strong spirited sister in Christ, I'm reminded of the scripture from Matthew 28:20: I am with you always, even unto the end of the world... This is powerful. This promise, among many similar ones in the Word, assures us that we are never really alone. It doesn't matter what is happening or where. It doesn't matter if we can sense God's presence or we can't. He is with us!
This is a comforting thought and I pray that we take it to heart. I know Jesus was with my son when he passed. I know that He was with Debra when she was relieved of her earthly burdens. I am convicted that God is with each of us and we are never really alone. Let the storms rage around us! Let the darkness of night come early and stay late!
As it states in Hebrews 13:5: I will never leave you nor forsake you. Thank You dear LORD...
Love Always,
Marti
